Digital Home High Definition. Starter Demonstrator Content Distribution for High Definition IPTV Digital Home
High Definition Television (AD for next) and television over IP technology (IPTV, for next) are two emerging technologies that have become a part of the future of the distribution of audiovisual content. Both technologies are available in the market. Otherwise, as will be described later, has triggered the sale of television receivers with average skills (HD ready) and higher (full HD), otherwise, IPTV services already exist (ie: Imagenio) on technologies such as ADSL . The importance of this project lies in the realization of a start demonstrator of the entire audiovisual value chain from content creation to consumption for broadcast or on demand, tailored to the needs and enhancing the possibilities of HD. This is to get HDTV through new media. The various milestones and work packages that make up the project involve research and development needed to adapt to different types of standards AD to different links in the chain that characterizes the enhancement of audiovisual content. Partners intend with this consortium, clearing the unknowns that may prevent the competitiveness of the Spanish market in this area. The project will result DHHD generate and transfer knowledge associated with the necessary adjustments to the different elements involved in the creation, ingest, cataloging, publication, dissemination, distribution, presentation, protection and other processes associated with the distribution of audiovisual content in High Definition of IP data networks.
The challenge is to adapt the various components of the distribution and consumption of content for IPTV in HDTV. High Definition Television, both in deployment and in the consolidation of services that exploit raises a number of challenges every member of the value chain of the audiovisual. Since the inception of the contents until it is displayed on the receiver of the consumer, there are a number of technical and business procedures are modified to adapt to high definition. This is even more relevant in the case of emerging technologies such as the distribution of IP TV or video on demand.
Three companies of reference of the Galician audiovisual sector meet with a research center to conduct a proof of concept or pilot demonstrator. Between three and each renowned in their fields, they can cover the whole chain that leads from the creation of audiovisual content to its distribution in the home. The project revolves around emerging technologies that together make up a significant business opportunity for the sector and for each of the participants. It is therefore to combine the expertise of each consortium members in order to build a demonstrator starter reading is technical and economic feasibility.
Results are obtained in terms of performance requirements, scalability and reliability of the whole, both for the acquisition and presentation of recorded media and live events, will explore the set of formats and standards that make up each link and its evolution towards High Definition. It is hoped that these results are useful in creating business models based on these technologies, not only for participants who are able to exploit them, but for the whole industry to be more competitive in this environment.
In the environment of the autonomous community of Galicia, at one end, are generating a huge amount of quality audiovisual content in HD. At the other extreme, as in the rest of the country, the deployment of television receivers and HD-ready full-HD is unstoppable and occurs at a rapid pace. It seems obvious that it is time to innovate in technology and business procedures of the audiovisual sector to meet this new need, particularly in the digital TV distribution and video on demand.
Targets:
Technological developments and / or functional explored within the scope of the project are:

Integration and adaptation of components of the value chain of content distribution over IP networks managed in the transition from Standard Definition to High Definition.

Study of techniques (eg techniques P2P content distribution) that would enable the definition of content distribution services AD unmanaged networks.

Study of business models related to the exploitation of content in HD format and the adaptation of content for this new layout window.

Identification of the needs of cataloging, metadating and protection of High Definition content and adaptation of content management tools to support the relevant requirements of HD.

Conception of new consumer electronics devices that are integrated in the digital home connected, tap the potential of HD.
Experience of a demonstrator's end-to-end content distribution in high definition, which illustrates the possibilities of new services and deployments based on High Definition and act as a generator allowing early demand in future real deployments.
