VoDKA Batch Transcoder

VoDKA Batch transcoder is a distributed multimedia transcoding control system. Media assets can be manually managed, or automatically acquired from watchfolders on an FTP server, or retrieved from VoDKA Asset Manager.

VoDKa Batch Transcoder enables a single source video to be transcoded into multiple target formats, with multiple parameters, and optionally updates the resulting media automatically into VoDKa Asset Manager as well. Some use cases include:

  • Audio / Video conversion into Internet-enabled formats: Flash Video, MPEG-4, H.264

  • Multimedia adaptation for set-top boxes on IPTV

Supported input media include:

  • File formats: AVI, MOV, MP4, MOV, 3GPP, MPEG-TS, MPEG-PS

  • Video formats: MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264, Flash video, Windows Media

  • Audio codecs: MP3, AAC, AMR

Supported output formats include:

  • File formats: AVI, MOV, 3GPP, MP4, MPEG-TS, MPEG-PS

  • Video formats: MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264, Flash Video (flv)

  • Audio codecs: AAC, AMR, MP3

Architecture

A VoDKA Batch Transcoder deployment requires two different node types:

  • Management nodeMonitors worker nodes, tracks incoming media, assigns work batches to worker nodes, performs fault management.

  • Worker node Receives work batches from the management node, performs encoding,
